All Access Pass- An Interview with Diane Middents

3 06 2007

In this edition of All Access Pass, I did an interview with Mrs. Diane Middents, whose son, Josh Middents, committed suicide in November of 2004. Her son’s death, although tragic, nonetheless rallied her family and her community to the cause of suicide prevention that will eventually lead to Josh’s Voice, a foundation that sells suicide awareness bracelets in Josh Middent’s memory.

Immigration Protest

3 06 2007

This is a report that I made in May 2007 on the immigration protest that happened on May 1st in Downtown Phoenix. On that day, an estimated 15,000 people marched from the Arizona State Fairground to the Arizona State Capitol to demand a solution to the illegal immigration problem that has been boiling since 2006.

At the State Capitol, counter-protesters were protesting against the march in general, and demand the government to take a tough stance on the illegal immigration problem.

This has been one of the harder reports I have covered. Look for a special blog post on my experience at the march in the coming week.

Spring Training

3 06 2007

This is a report I made in March 2007 on the new season of Spring Training in Phoenix. Phoenix.

This is the second and, as of now, last video that I produced in widescreen, after advice by my industry colleagues to the contrary. I am considering returning to widescreen production in the future.

Background Information: Spring Training is a way for Major League Baseball teams to train for the upcoming seasons in areas with warm Climate. Two states, Arizona and Florida, provide training venues for 30 MLB teams between February and April. These games are normally played in small, municipal Ballparks, and not in large stadiums.

Body Worlds 3

3 06 2007

This is a report I made in January 2007 on the Body Worlds 3 exhibit at the Arizona Science Center. This is also the first report I made as an independent reporter.

The report is in widescreen format, letterboxed for standard 4:3 screen viewing.

Background Information: Body Worlds 3 is an exhibit by German anatomist Gunther von Hagens. The anatomist invented the Plastination techniques in the 1970’s, this technique is used to preserve the human bodies for the Body Worlds exhibits. Controversies surrounding these exhibits have been non-stop, with accusations of questionable morality and the acquisition of bodies via unethical or illegal techniques being raised regularly.

From The Archives: Suicide Prevention (2006)

3 06 2007

This is a report I made in October of 2006, on a suicide prevention foundation that was established in a late High School student’s memory.

This report was produced while I was still a member of Sun Devil Television, a student run television station on the campus of Arizona State University. I left the station in December 2006.

Background Information: Josh’s Voice was established in memory of Joshua David Middents, who was a High School Senior at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, Arizona when he committed in November of 2004. His aunt, who attempted suicide when she was a teenager, established Josh’s Voice in his memory. The foundation sells suicide awareness bracelets on the Internet and at Josh Middent’s old High School.

I would like to thank the Middents family for opening their doors- and hearts- to my intrusion and their willingness to being interviewed.
